After a disappointing string of results led to Hoosier State Cycling dropping out of Division 4 and missing the Race of the Minutemen, team captain Van Landry responded in a big way. First, Landry won the Division 6 Heim Imatra in a sprint finish over fellow breakaway rider Veijo Vuorinen. The pair attacked with 50 km remaining and worked together to stay away. Landry managed the better kick, however, and picked up his first victory of the day.
After a short flight to Switzerland, Landry continued his winning ways with a victory in the Division 5 Altdorf-Ems. On a parcours that suited pure climbers rather than an all-rounder like Landry, the Hoosier State rider managed to respond to Benjamin Guimarães' late surge before finishing with an attack of his own. With the two victories, HSC is back in Division 4 and Landry rises to 178th in the world.
"We were pretty discouraged after missing the sign-up for Criterium la Grasse and Race of the Minutemen by a few days," Landry explained. "If I could have just gotten a result in one of our past races we would have had enough points to join. Instead, the team focused on getting the best results possible in these two races and we delivered."
